Nevada Newspapers & Publications
Nevada Genealogical publications (magazines, newsletters, periodicals, books, etc.) contain all types of invaluable information about specific ancestors, whole lineages and families, places in time, and about all sorts of genealogical records and repositories.
The University of Nevada in both Las Vegas and Reno, as well as the Nevada Historical Society and Nevada State Library, have many different microfilmed newspapers from various cities across the state.
A database inventory of those newspapers can be found on the website of the University of Nevada Las Vegas Libraries.
It can be researched according to title, county, and city by researchers. Links to current newspapers and indexes can also be found on that website.
In 1858, the Territorial Enterprise was founded in Genoa, but it was later moved. First it was based in Carson City and, later, moved to Virginia City, where it stayed. Many articles in the Territorial Enterprise were about mining or politics, but there were also several literary pieces published in its pages, particularly by Mark Twain.
The Enterprise was replaced in Carson City by the Silver Age. Then, in 1863, the Daily Independent was founded in that same area.
However, by October of 1864 it no longer existed. Another short-lived publication in that area was the Daily Evening Post. Many papers in Nevada changed locations several times or ended as quickly as they began.
