Arkansas Genealogical publications (magazines, newsletters, periodicals, books, etc.) include all types of beneficial information pertaining to specific ancestors, complete lineages and families, places in time, and concerning all types of genealogical records and repositories.
They assist you to uncover a variety of facts about your ancestors from many historical newspapers, magazines, and other periodicals.
These different types of sources can often supplement public records and offer you information and facts that is not recorded anywhere else.
The Arkansas Gazette and the Arkansas Advocate were two of the earliest and most important newspapers in Arkansas. Many published abstracts exist for both.
The Arkansas History Commission has published volumes on file.
The Union List of Arkansas Newspapers, 1819-1942: Partial Inventory of Arkansas Newspaper Files Available in Offices of Publishers, Libraries, and Private Collections in Arkansas, prepared by the Historical Records Survey, Division of Community Service Programs, WPA is also a valuable resource.
It contains information on Arkansas newspapers that were published between when Arkansas was a territory and when World War I began.
Around 700 Arkansas newspapers that were published in about 200 different locations from 1819 to the present have files at the Arkansas History Commission. It is also home to Arkansas Gazette index information for the years of 1819 to 1881 and 1964 to 1983.
The DAR maintains many family records, Bible Records, and vital records. The FHL, the Arkansas History Commission and the DAR Downtown Branch, Central Arkansas Library System each have copies of those records on file.
There manuscript collection at the Arkansas History Commission is quite large, but an index is available to make research easier. There is also a large manuscript collection available at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Special Collections Library.
