Jackson County, Georgia (Map It) was created on February 11, 1796 from Franklin County. Portions of Jackson County were used to create the following counties: Clarke County (1801), Madison County (1811), and Barrow County (1914). Jackson County was named in honor of General James Jackson (1757 - 1806), a hero of the Revolutionary War.
Jackson County is bordered by  Banks County (north), Madison County (east), Clarke County, Oconee County (south), Gwinnett County (southwest), Barrow County (west), Hall County (northwest).

The Jackson County Courthouse is located in Jefferson, Georgia.

- Jackson County Clerk of Superior Court has Land Records from 1796 and Court Records from 1796. The County Clerk of Superior Court has jurisdiction over cases for title to land and equity, felony cases, adoptions, divorces, child support and custody enforcement. The clerk also is tasked with recording deeds and maintaining the chain of title to all property in the county.
