Ritchie County, West Virginia (Map It) was created on February 18, 1843 from portions of Harrison County, Lewis County, Wood County. The county was named in honor of Thomas Ritchie (1778-1854), nationally influential Virginia newspaper publisher.
Ritchie County is bordered by Pleasants County (north), Tyler County (northeast), Doddridge County (east), Gilmer County (southeast), Calhoun County (south), Wirt County (west), Wood County (northwest).
