Van Buren County, Tennessee (Map It) was created on January 3, 1840 from Warren County and White County (Tenn. Acts 1839, 23d assy., ch. 59, secs. 1, 14/pp. 130, 134). This Van Buren County was named in honor of U.S. President Martin Van Buren (1782–1862)

Van Buren County is bordered by White County (north), Cumberland County (northeast), Bledsoe County (east), Sequatchie County (south) and Warren County (west) .
