Perry County, Ohio (Map It) was created on March 1, 1818 from Fairfield County, Muskingum County and Washington County. This county was named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry (1785–1819), a naval officer of the War of 1812.

Perry County is bordered by Licking County (north), Muskingum County (northeast), Morgan County (southeast), Athens County (south), Hocking County (southwest), Fairfield County (west).
