Irwin County, Georgia Records

Irwin County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 15, 1818 from Creek Cessions of 1814 and 1818. Portions of Irwin Counties original boundaries were used to create the following counties: Lowndes County and Thomas County (1825), Worth County (1853), Coffee County (1854), Berrien County (1856), Wilcox County (1857), Tift County and Turner County (1905), and Ben Hill County (1906). Irwin County was named in honor of Jared Irwin (1751 - 1818), the governor who rescinded the Yazoo Act in 1796.

Irwin County is bordered by  Ben Hill County (north), Coffee County (east), Berrien County (south), Tift County (southwest), Turner County (northwest)
