Tift County, Georgia (Map It) was created on August 17, 1905 from Berrien County, Irwin County and Worth County. Tift County was named in honor of Colonel Nelson Tift (1810 - 91), a captain in the Confederate States Navy and U.S. Congressman.

Tift County is bordered by  Irwin County (northeast), Berrien County (south), Cook County (south), Colquitt County (southwest), Worth County (west), Turner County ( north-northwest).
