Roscommon County, Michigan (Map It) was created on April 1, 1840 from Mackinac County and unorganized territory. The county was named for County Roscommon, Ireland.
Roscommon County is bordered by Oscoda County (northeast corner), Crawford County (north), Kalkaska County (northwest corner), Ogemaw County (east), Missaukee County (west), Gladwin County (southeast), Clare County (southwest).

The Roscommon County Courthouse is located in Roscommon, Michigan. Some early records  prior to organization on  Formerly Mikenauk county, until name changed to Roscommon 8 March 1843 may be located in Cheboygan County and Midland County. - Roscommon County Register of Deeds has Land from 1875.The County Register of Deeds is the official recording officer for all legal documents pertaining to the transfers and encumbrances of all real estate property within the County. The Register also provides permanent storage for approved original subdivision plats, condominiums, land surveys and section corners.
- Roscommon County Clerk of the Probate Court has Probate from 1875. The County Clerk of the Probate Court responsibilities include adjudicating and disposes of cases involving property of persons who have died or become incompetent, interprets wills and trusts, commits the mentally ill when necessary and appoints guardians and conservators for minors, incapacitated individuals and individuals with developmental disability.
