Gladwin County, Michigan (Map It) was created on March 2, 1831 from unorganized territory . The county was named for Major Henry Gladwin, British commander of the fort at Detroit during the siege by Chief Pontiac in 1763-64.

Gladwin County is bordered by Ogemaw County (northeast), Arenac County (east), Bay County (southeast), Midland County (south), Clare County (west), Roscommon County (northwest).
