Chowan County, North Carolina (Map It) was created on 1668 from Albemarle Precinct. This county was named for the Chowan Native American tribe which lived in the northeastern part of the Colony.
Chowan County is bordered by Gates County (north), Perquimans County (east), Washington County (west), Bertie County (west), Hertford County (northwest).
