Roane County, West Virginia (Map It) was created on March 11, 1856 from portions of Gilmer County, Jackson County and Kanawha County. The county was named in honor of Judge Spencer Roane (1762-1822), Virginia Supreme Court justice.
Roane County is bordered by Wirt County (north), Calhoun County (east), Clay County (southeast), Kanawha County (south), Jackson County (west).

The Roane County Courthouse is located in Spencer, West Virginia. The Clerk's Office DOES NOT DO RESEARCH. Most staff will assist people in finding the materials, but it is up to the individual to do the research.
