Hanover County, Virginia (Map It) was created in November 20, 1720 from New Kent County. Hanover county was named for Henry Frederick, Prince of Wales, oldest son of James I of England.
Hanover County is bordered by Spotsylvania County (northwest), Caroline County (north), King William County (northeast), New Kent County (east), Henrico County (south), Goochland County (southwest), Louisa County (west).
