Lawrence County, Indiana (Map It) was created on March 1, 1818 from Orange County. This county was named for Capt. James Lawrence,  hero of the War of 1812.

Lawrence County is bordered by  Monroe County (north), Jackson County (east), Washington County (southeast), Orange County (south), Martin County (west), Greene County (northwest).
