Meriwether County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 14, 1827 from Troup County. Meriwether County was named in honor of General David Meriwether (1755 - 1822), a hero of the Revolutionary War and a U.S. Congressman.
Meriwether County is bordered by  Coweta County (north), Spalding County (northeast), Pike County (east), Upson County, Talbot County (south), Harris County (southwest), Troup County (west)

The Meriwether County Courthouse is located in Greenville, Georgia. The courthouse was badly damaged by a tornado in 1893. In 1976, a fire destroyed much of the building -- except for the brick exterior walls.
