Barbour County, Alabama (Map It) was created on December 18, 1832 from former Creek Indian territory and a portion of Pike County. Barbour county was named in honor of James Barbour (1775–1842), a distinguished statesman and governor of Virginia.
Barbour County is bordered by Russell County (northeast), Quitman County, Georgia (east), Stewart County, Georgia (east), Clay County, Georgia (southeast), Henry County (south), Dale County (south), Pike County (west), Bullock County (northwest)

Barbour County, AL Courthouse
The Barbour County Courthouse is located in Clayton, Alabama and Eufaula, Alabama. Originally the County Seat was established in Louisville in 1833, moved to Clayton in 1834. The Barbour County Courthouse in Clayton was built in the 1960s to replace the original, which was built in 1854. Barbour County established a second county court in Eufaula with Act No. 102 in 1879.
