Tyler County, West Virginia (Map It) was created on December 16, 1814 from portions of Ohio County. The county was named in honor of John Tyler, Sr. (1747-1813), Governor of Virginia.
Tyler County is bordered by Wetzel County (northeast), Doddridge County (southeast), Ritchie County (southwest), Pleasants County and Washington County, Ohio (west), Monroe County, Ohio (northwest).
