Worth County, Missouri (Map It) was created on February 8, 1861 from Gentry County. The county was named in honor of William J. Worth (1794–1849), a United States general during the Mexican-American War.
Worth County is bordered by Taylor County, Iowa (northwest), Ringgold County, Iowa (northeast), Harrison County (east), Gentry County (south), Nodaway County (west).

Fire destroyed this Courthouse in February 1866. No records loss. State census of 1876.
