Holt County, Missouri (Map It) was created on January 29, 1841 from the Platte Purchase. The county was named in honor of David Rice Holt, Missouri State Representative .

Holt County is bordered by Atchison County (north), Nodaway County (northeast), Andrew County (east), Doniphan County, Kansas (south), Richardson County, Nebraska (west), Nemaha County, Nebraska (northwest).
