Statewide West Virginia Census records that exist are 1870, 1880, 1890 (fragment, see below), 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940.

Researchers wishing to find information on West Virginia residents who lived in the area before 1870 should consult the National Archives census records for the state.
The FHL, West Virginia University in Morgantown, and Charleston’s Archives and History Library each have collections of census records available as well. There are also many published census record abstracts for West Virginia, which can be found in various repositories around the state.
