Crittenden County, Arkansas Records

Crittenden County, Arkansas (Map It) was created on October 22, 1825 and was formed from Phillips County. Parts of Crittenden County was used to form the following counties: Cross 1862, Lee 1873, Mississippi 1833.

Other county boundry changes occured when St. Francis River declared boundary with St. Francis 3 November 1831, part annexed to Mississippi 18 January 1861. Crittenden County was named in honor of Robert Crittenden (1797–1834), Governor of the Arkansas Territory.

Crittenden County is bordered by Mississippi County (northeast), Tipton County, Tennessee (east), Shelby County, Tennessee (east), DeSoto County, Mississippi (southeast), Tunica County, Mississippi (south), Lee County (southwest), St. Francis County & Cross County (west), Poinsett County (northwest).

Crittenden County Cities and Towns include West Memphis, Marion, Anthonyville, Clarkedale, Crawfordsville, Earle, Edmondson, Gilmore, Horseshoe Lake, Jennette, Jericho, Sunset, Turr.

Crittenden County, Arkansas Courthouse Records

The Crittenden County Courthouse is located in Marion, Arkansas. The records of this county are intact except that during the reconstruction period, a few pages of the deed records and of the chancery court records were mutilated, and the taxbooks for the year 1878 are missing. There are deed records much older than the county and the original deed records, A and B, are now hardly legible. Many of these early deeds are in Spanish. The date does not indicate that there are alot records for that year and does not mean that all such events were actually filed with the clerk.

• Crittenden County Clerk of Circuit Court has Court Records from 1839, Land Records from 1826 and Divorce Records are maintained among the equity records (Divorces issued prior to 1950 are located here. Divorces issued after 1950 can be found  at the Arkansas Department of Public Health. The County Clerk of Circuit Court is the clerk of the circuit, chancery court, and juvenile court and usually acts as the ex-officio recorder of the county. The duties of the clerk are to maintain a record of all proceedings of the circuit, chancery and juvenile courts and to prepare the dockets for courts. They are also the ex-officio county recorder; and is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages, liens, and surety bonds, and many other orders and instruments which involve property within the county.
• Crittenden County Clerk has Marriage Records from 1837 and has Probate Records from 1826. The County Clerk, as clerk to the probate court, the clerk files all instruments making them a matter of record in descendent estate cases, and swears in all witnesses in contested estates. The clerk, also in this capacity, maintains all records relative to adoptions and guardianship cases.
