Greene County, North Carolina (Map It) was created on November 18, 1799 from Glasgow County. This county was named for Nathanael Greene (1742–1786), a major general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War.
Greene County is bordered by Pitt County (northeast), Lenoir County (south), Wayne County (west), Wilson County (northwest).
