Alcorn County, Mississippi (Map It) was created on April 15, 1870 from Tippiah County and Tishomingo County. The county was named in honor of James L. Alcorn, Reconstruction-era U.S. Senator from Mississippi .

Alcorn County is bordered by McNairy County, Tennessee (north), Hardin County, Tennessee (northeast), Tishomingo County (east), Prentiss County (south), Tippah County (west) and Hardeman County, Tennessee (northwest).
