Lake County, Minnesota (Map It) was created on March 1, 1856 (Organized in 1891) from Itasca County. The county was named for the Lake Superior, which forms the southeastern boundary of the county.

Lake County is bordered by Ontario Province, Canada (north), Cook County (east), Ashland County, Wisconsin (southeast), Bayfield County, Wisconsin (south), Douglas County, Wisconsin (south), St. Louis County (west).

Lake County, MN Courthouse

The Lake County Courthouse is located in Two Harbors, Minnesota. At some time Lake County was attached to Benton County and St. Louis County for county and or judicial purposes.
