Clay County, Florida (Map It) was created on December 31, 1858 from Duval County. Clay County was named for Henry Clay (1777–1852), Secretary of State from 1825 to 1829 under John Quincy Adams.
Clay County is bordered by Duval County (north), St. Johns County (east), Putnam County (south), Bradford County (west), Baker County (northwest).
