Washington County, Texas (Map It) was created on March 17, 1836 as one of the original 23 counties. Was originally named Tenehaw County, it was created on July 18, 1835 from Austin County and Liberty County, established as a municipality by Mexico. This county was named for George Washington, the first president of the United States (1789–1797) .

Washington County is bordered by Brazos County (north), Grimes County (northeast), Waller County (east), Austin County (south), Fayette County (southwest), Lee County (west), Burleson County (northwest).

  • Washington County Clerk has Birth & Death Records from 1903, Marriage Records from 1837, Land Records from 1832, Probate Records from 1837 and Court Records from 1840. The County Clerk's office is the place where all transactions having to do with land are recorded and kept on file. They take marriage license applications, issues marriage licenses, files the license after the marriage, and maintains a permanent record of the marriage, surveys and plats of subdivisions, Armed Forces discharge papers for all veterans who reside in the county.
