Karnes County, Texas (Map It) was created on February 4, 1854 from Bexar County, Dewitt County, Goliad County and San Patrico County. This county was named for Henry Karnes (1812–1840), a soldier in the Texas Revolution .

Karnes County is bordered by Gonzales County (northeast), DeWitt County (east), Goliad County (southeast), Bee County (south), Live Oak County (southwest), Atascosa County (west), Wilson County (northwest).

Courthouse and most records of the county clerk were destroyed by fire in July 1865.

• Karnes County Clerk has Birth & Death Records from 1903, Marriage Records from 1865, Land Records from 1855, Probate Records from 1865 and Court Records from 1854. The County Clerk's office is the place where all transactions having to do with land are recorded and kept on file. They take marriage license applications, issues marriage licenses, files the license after the marriage, and maintains a permanent record of the marriage, surveys and plats of subdivisions, Armed Forces discharge papers for all veterans who reside in the county. Some naturalization records have been found with the deeds.
