Carteret County, North Carolina (Map It) was created on 1722 from Craven Precinct and Bath County. This county was named for John Carteret, 2nd Earl Granville (1690–1763), who inherited one-eighth share in the Province of Carolina through his great-grandfather George Carteret.
Carteret County is bordered by Craven County (north), Pamlico County (north), Onslow County (southwest), Jones County (northwest).
