Wilkin County, Minnesota Records
Wilkin County, Minnesota (Map It) was created on March 18, 1858 (Organized in 1872) from Cass County and Pembina County. The county was named in honor of Colonel Alexander Wilkin (1820-1864), U.S. marshal for Minnesota and secretary of the Minnesota Territory, 1851-53; killed during the Civil War at the battle of Tupelo, Mississippi, 1864.
Wilkin County is bordered by Clay County (north), Otter Tail County (east), Grant County (southeast), Traverse County (south), Richland County, North Dakota (southwest), Cass County, North Dakota (northwest).
Wilkin County Cities and Towns include Breckenridge, Campbell, Doran, Foxhome, Kent, Nashua, Rothsay, Tenney, Wolverton.

The Wilkin County Courthouse is located in Breckenridge, Minnesota. At some time Wilkin County was attached to Otter Tail County for county and or judicial purposes. Some early records may be found there. Courthouse burned in 1883 destroying most early records. The courthouse burned again in 1924 with no record loss.
