Douglas County, Minnesota (Map It) was created on March 8, 1858 from Cass County and Pembina County. The county was named in honor of Stephen Arnold Douglas (1813-1861), member of Congress from Illinois 1843-47, U.S. Senator from Illinois, 1847-61; candidate for president in 1860; advocated Minnesota statehood as chairman of Senate Committee on Territories.

Douglas County is bordered by Otter Tail County (north), Todd County (east), Stearns County (southeast), Pope County (south), Stevens County (southwest), Grant County (west).

• Douglas County Recorder has Birth / Death Records from 1870, Marriage Records from 1870 and Land Records from 1862. The County Recorder is responsible for all the real estate records for properties located in the County. Permanent records of deeds, mortgages and other various real estate records are recorded/filed in this office. As Local Registrar, the office protects and issues certified copies of Birth and Death records, Marriage Certificates & Military Discharge Records.
