Holmes County, Florida (Map It) was created on January 8, 1848 from Jackson County and Walton County. Holmes County was named for Holmes Creek, which forms the eastern boundary of the county.
Holmes County is bordered by Geneva County, Alabama (north), Jackson County (east), Washington County (south), Walton County (west).
