Washington County, Maine (Map It) was created on June 25, 1789 from part of Lincoln County (originally Washington County, Massachusetts). This county was named in honor of George Washington, the first President of the United States.

Washington County is bordered by Hancock County (southwest), Aroostook County (northwest), Penobscot County (northwest), York County, New Brunswick, Canada  (northeast), Charlotte County, New Brunswick, Canada (east).
