Pender County, North Carolina (Map It) was created on 1875 from New Hanover County. This county was named for William Dorsey Pender (1834–1863), Confederate soldier who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg of the American Civil War.

Pender County is bordered by Duplin County (north), Onslow County (northeast), New Hanover County (south), Brunswick County (southwest), Columbus County (southwest), Bladen County (west), Sampson County (northwest).
