Hockley County, Texas (Map It) was created on August 21, 1876 from the Young Territory. This county was named for George Washington Hockley (1802–1854), Chief of Staff of the Texas Army during the Texas Revolution and secretary of war of the Republic of Texas .
Hockley County is bordered by Lamb County (north), Lubbock County (east), Terry County (south), Cochran County (west).
