Fremont County, Colorado (Map It) was created on November 1, 1861 as one of the 17 original counties of the Territory of Colorado. Fremont County was named in honor of John Charles Frémont (1813 - 1890), the explorer, U.S. Army general, and U.S. Senator from California.
Fremont County is bordered by Teller County (north), El Paso County (northeast), Pueblo County (south), Custer County (south), Saguache County (southwest), Chaffee County (northwest), Park County (northwest).
