Little River County, Arkansas (Map It) was created on March 5, 1867 and was formed from Hempstead County and Sevier County.

Other county boundry changes occured when Part annexed to Miller 30 March 1915. Little River County was named for the Little River, a tributary of the Red River.

Little River County is bordered by Sevier County (north), Howard County (northeast), Hempstead County (east), Miller County (southeast), Bowie County, Texas (south), McCurtain County, Oklahoma (west).

Little River County, AR Courthouse

The Little River County Courthouse is located in Ashdown, Arkansas. It was reported the following records missing: county court records from 1867 to Jan. 1876, destroyed by fire in 1882; marriage record from 1867 to Dec. 1880, cause of destruction unknown; real estate tax books from 1867 to 1882, destroyed by fire in 1882. The County Clerk of Circuit Court is the clerk of the circuit, chancery court, and juvenile court and usually acts as the ex-officio recorder of the county. The duties of the clerk are to maintain a record of all proceedings of the circuit, chancery and juvenile courts and to prepare the dockets for courts. They are also the ex-officio county recorder; and is responsible for recording deeds, mortgages, liens, and surety bonds, and many other orders and instruments which involve property within the county.
