McMullen County, Texas (Map It) was created on February 11, 1858 from Nueces County, Atascosa County and Live Oak County. This county was named for John McMullen (1832–1883), an Irish-born empresario in Texas .
McMullen County is bordered by Atascosa County (north), Live Oak County (east), Duval County (south), Webb County (southwest), La Salle County (west), Frio County (northwest).

Some early records  prior to organization on 1877 may be located in Live Oak County. Records from the first, short-lived organization have not survived.
- McMullen County Clerk has Birth & Death Records from 1903, Marriage Records from 1877, Land Records from 1835, Probate Records from 1877 and Court Records from 1879. The County Clerk's office is the place where all transactions having to do with land are recorded and kept on file. They take marriage license applications, issues marriage licenses, files the license after the marriage, and maintains a permanent record of the marriage, surveys and plats of subdivisions, Armed Forces discharge papers for all veterans who reside in the county. Some naturalization records have been found with the deeds.
