Lee County, Florida (Map It) was created on May 13, 1887 from Monroe County. Lee County was named for Robert E. Lee (1807–1870), commander of the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia in the American Civil War.

Lee County is bordered by Charlotte County (north), Glades County (northeast), Collier County (southeast), Hendry County (east).
