Vance County, North Carolina (Map It) was created on 1881 from Granville County, Franklin County and Warren County. This county was named for Zebulon Baird Vance (1830–1894), a Confederate military officer in the American Civil War, twice governor of North Carolina, and United States Senator.

Vance County is bordered by Mecklenburg County, Virginia (north), Warren County (east), Franklin County (south), Granville County (west).
