Grant County, Nebraska (Map It) was created on March 31, 1887 from Unorganized area of the Nebraska Territory. The county was named in honor of Ulysses Simpson Grant, the eighteenth president of the United States and American Civil War general.

Grant County is bordered by Cherry County (north), Hooker County (east), Arthur County (south), Garden County (west), Sheridan County (northwest).
