Okaloosa County, Florida (Map It) was created on June 3, 1915 from Santa Rosa County and Walton County. Okaloosa County was named for the native word meaning "a pleasant place," "black water", or "beautiful place".

Okaloosa County is bordered by Covington County, Alabama (north), Walton County (east), Santa Rosa County (west), Escambia County, Alabama (northwest).
