Midland County, Texas (Map It) was created on March 14, 1885 from Tom Green County. This county was named for its county seat, which was named for its location halfway between Fort Worth and El Paso on the Texas and Pacific Railway (and "Midway, Texas", being already in use) .

Midland County is bordered by Martin County (north), Glasscock County (east), Upton County (south), Ector County (west), Andrews County (northwest).
