Hanson County, South Dakota (Map It) was created on January 13, 1871 from Buffalo County and Deuel County. The county was named in honor of Joseph R. Hanson, army major in the Indian Wars and early settler.
Hanson County is bordered by Miner County (north), McCook County (east), Hutchinson County (south), Davison County (west), Sanborn County (northwest).
