Otero County, New Mexico (Map It) was created on January 30, 1899 from Doña Ana County and Lincoln County. The county was named in honor of Miguel A. Otero, territorial delegate to U. S. Congress.
Otero County is bordered by Doña Ana County (west), Sierra County, Lincoln County (north), Chaves County (east), Eddy County.east), Culberson County, Texas , Hudspeth County, Texas (south), El Paso County, Texas (southwest).
