Musselshell County, Montana (Map It) was created on February 11, 1911 from Fergus County, Meagher County and Yellowstone County. The county was named for the Musselshell River, named in turn by the Lewis and Clark Expedition presumably due to mussels found on its banks.
Musselshell County is bordered by Fergus County (north), Petroleum County (north), Rosebud County (east), Yellowstone County (south), Golden Valley County (west).
