Taliaferro County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 24, 1825 from Greene County, Hancock County, Oglethorpe County, Warren County, and Wilkes County. Taliaferro County was named in honor of Colonel Benjamin Taliaferro (1750 - 1821), a U.S. Congressman and a hero of the Revolutionary War.

Taliaferro County is bordered by  Wilkes County (north), Oglethorpe County (north), Warren County (southeast), Hancock County (south), Greene County (west)
