Putnam County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 10, 1807 from Baldwin County. Putnam County was named in honor of General Israel Putnam (1718 - 90), a hero of the Revolutionary War.

Putnam County is bordered by  Morgan County (north), Greene County (northeast), Hancock County (east), Baldwin County (southeast), Jones County (southwest), Jasper County (west)
