Macon County, Georgia (Map It) was created on December 14, 1837 from Houston County and Marion County. Portions of Macon County were used to create Taylor County (1852) and Peach County (1924). Macon County was named in honor of General Nathaniel Macon (1758 - 1837), Speaker of the House of Representatives and a U.S. Senator.
Macon County is bordered by  Peach County (northeast), Houston County (east), Dooly County (southeast), Sumter County (south), Schley County (southwest), Taylor County (northwest)

The Macon County Courthouse is located in Oglethorpe, Georgia. The County Courthiuse was destroyed by fire in 1857, destroying all records.

- Macon County Clerk of Superior Court has Land Records from 1857 and Court Records from 1856. The County Clerk of Superior Court has jurisdiction over cases for title to land and equity, felony cases, adoptions, divorces, child support and custody enforcement. The clerk also is tasked with recording deeds and maintaining the chain of title to all property in the county.
