Long County, Georgia (Map It) was created on August 14, 1920 from Liberty County. Long County was named in honor of Dr. Crawford Williamson Long (1815 - 78), in 1842 the first man to use diethyl ether as an anesthetic for dental surgery.
Long County is bordered by  Liberty County (northeast), McIntosh County (southwest), Wayne County (southwest), Tattnall County (northwest)
