Clayton County, Georgia (Map It) was created on November 30, 1858 from Fayette County and Henry County. Clayton County was named in honor of Augustin Smith Clayton (1783 - 1839), a local jurist and U.S. Congressman.
Clayton County is bordered by DeKalb County (northeast), Henry County (east), Spalding County (south), Fayette County (southwest), Fulton County (northwest).
